The principle, and the platform's correction
The course author argues that with proper sizing, five entries and the checklist, a trade should rarely need its stop and should never be liquidated. The first half is true: a ladder with sensible leverage is hard to liquidate. The second half is where this platform disagrees with the author. A stop is still set, every time. Module 1 sized your trade from the stop; without one the 1 percent rule has nothing to measure. Set it in the ticket when you place the orders. The Portfolio page even replays your history "with a stop on trades that had none" so you can see what it would have saved.
Scam wicks
A scam wick is a brief, violent spike that exists to trigger liquidations and stops, after which price returns. The author's protection is a small same-direction limit order placed just inside the liquidation price: a long gets a small extra long slightly above liquidation, a short a small extra short slightly below it. If a wick fills it, the added margin pushes liquidation further away.
You can place that order on the perpetuals ticket. Before you do, read the ticket's own warning: you would be adding to a losing leveraged position near its liquidation. On a thin altcoin that is the author's considered technique; on a trade that is simply wrong it is throwing good money after bad. The stop decides which case you are in. If the stop is below the wick zone, the protective order has a job; if the stop has already hit, there is nothing to protect.
Take-profit placement
Long: take-profit near resistance. Short: near support. Then stage the exit: the take-profit at the level and a few reduce-only limit orders slightly below it. A wick through the level fills the take-profit; a move that falls just short still fills the limits.
When it goes against you
- Stay calm.
- Re-read the plan you wrote before the trade.
- Do not close on emotion.
- Change only what the plan allows.
Leverage, the course way
Bitcoin at most 5x, altcoins at most 3x, and 2x for a conservative swing. The ticket allows far more; the 2x and 5x presets are there for exactly this rule. The Portfolio what-if panel can replay your history "with leverage capped at 5x" to show what the rule would have changed.
In the lab
For the ladder you planned in the previous lesson, decide the stop: below the zone and below the white 55 if it is near. Write the stop, the take-profit and the staged exits in the journal before you touch the ticket.
