What is Alt Season?
Alt Season is a market phase when money rotates out of Bitcoin and into altcoins. It usually shows up as falling Bitcoin dominance, ETH gaining on BTC and most altcoins outperforming Bitcoin. Spotting the move early (Bitcoin Season → Transition → Alt Season) helps frame allocation decisions without pretending to predict the future.
How the score is built
The Alt Season Score is a weighted average of seven signals, each scaled from 0 (Bitcoin-favouring) to 100 (alt-favouring):
- Bitcoin dominance momentum: 25%
- ETH/BTC trend: 20%
- Altcoin index trend including ETH (TOTAL2-style): 15%
- Altcoin index trend excluding ETH (TOTAL3-style): 15%
- Stablecoin dominance (less cash on the sidelines reads as alt-favouring): 10%
- Altcoin breadth, the share of altcoins trading above their 50-day average: 10%
- Perpetual futures funding rates: 5%
If a signal is temporarily unavailable it drops out and the others are re-weighted. It is never filled with a made-up value.
How to read today's score
- 0–25: Bitcoin Season
- 26–50: Transition
- 51–75: Early Alt Season
- 76–100: Full Alt Season
Our score vs the Altcoin Season Index
The widely quoted Altcoin Season Index asks one question: how many leading altcoins beat Bitcoin over the last 90 days? At 75% or more it calls alt season. Since 2017 that has happened on only about 12% of days. Our score adds dominance, capital-flow and positioning signals, so it can show rotation starting before the 90-day window catches up.
